If you truly want to beat corporate constipation and grab your piece of the American pie, you’ll have to decide where and what you want to be. Do you want to work for a constipated corporation, or do you want to be an entrepreneur?
If you believe in your present corporation, then you can stay and fight for what you know is right. If you’re done with the corporate system, then it may be time for you to become an entrepreneur. In these uncertain economic times, this is perhaps the toughest decision you'll ever make, but you have to make it if you want success at any level.
After I sold my company in 2008, the new parent corporation was kind enough to keep me on the payroll, but it wasn’t long before problems started to surface. It’s been tough for both sides because our new parent company bought a true entrepreneurial start-up, but none of their management team had entrepreneurial experience. On the other side, our founding management team came strictly from the entrepreneurial side of the tracks and we lacked true corporate experience.
Making the transition from a small start-up to a mainstream player has been tough for both sides. Yet as frustrating as it’s been, the rewards will hopefully be worth the headaches as our company grows.
I decided to stay as long as possible to help our company achieve the dream we originally went for starting out at my kitchen table with $350, and an idea to make the world’s first hot pepper nasal spray. In less than 5 years, we built the Sinus Buster brand into a monster that’s making big waves as expand our national roll out. This is something we could never have done on our own, and so having a venture capital firm come aboard has been an important milestone for us.
I’ve personally decided to stand and fight for my company, but I’m also producing entrepreneurial projects on the side - ones that don’t interfere with my present business, such as this website. So I’ll continue to work both sides of the track as I follow my entrepreneurial addiction. I guess you’d call me a serial entrepreneur.
